Recovery Weak*

I can't get sick. I won't get sick. I NEVER get sick. Such vanity.

Yep, a cold: sore throat, muscle aches, malaise. Cures? Nope. Any suggestions beyond these?

Extra zinc, but not too much; could lead to nausea. (Ahh, could you rub my belly?)

If you're physically active, extra Vitamin C. And here I thought this was always good, but only for the very active? go figure. Shopping list: more oranges.

Lots of fluids. Tell me something new. Big whoop, I've never noticed it helping. Have also heard the opposite. But I'm eating soup. (Sorry, I'm a bit cranky.)

Garlic. Or a big smelly sign that says: Stay Away, I'm Sick.

Rest. Aw come ON, I've got a 16-miler to run on Sunday. Two sleepless nights of fever/chills not helping.

I WAS going to blah, blah, blah. I had hoped to waa, waa, waa...sigh. Just let me lie down first.

Shoot.

*Yes, I chose that spelling on purpose.

  1. Oh no. It's so hard to be sick. And to just rest. 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne in a small amount of juice, drunk quickly and followed by water, will help with congestion. Try lots of finely chopped garlic mixed with petroleum jelly applied to the bottoms of your feet and covered with socks, before bed. (This actually works.) Hope you feel better soon. There will be lots more 16-milers to run if you don't make this one.

  2. Thanks for the good advice, Andrea. I'll try the antidotes you mention! And try to be patient. Sniff.

  3. Wow - you're RIGHT! I did the garlic treatment two nights in a row. After the previous two of chill/fever/stuffiness I was ready to try anything. Well, these last two nights have been wonderful. I slept without a single wake-up to blow my nose. I slept 10 hours last night, right through a lightening/hail storm. But, ah, I slept in the guest room. Was a bit strong for Jim. Thanks so much for the treatment. I'm on the mend!

  4. I used to do this to my kids, who were clueless about what I was doing, but it seemed to work. My apologies to Jim. :D I did the cayenne to me, and it was very effective, though scary. Glad to hear you're feeling better!
